Kiwi is a bright, tangy fruit with a soft, juicy interior that many babies enjoy once prepared safely. It’s rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, and fibre—supporting immunity, digestion, and iron absorption. When perfectly ripe, kiwi becomes very tender and easy for babies to mash with their gums.

Nutritional Information
Kiwi contains antioxidants, folate, and potassium that help support heart health and healthy cell development. Choose kiwis that yield slightly when pressed; overly firm kiwis can be too tough and sour for babies. Fresh green or golden kiwi both work well—golden varieties are sweeter and often gentler on sensitive tummies.

How to serve kiwi by age

Baby-Led Weaning

  • Finger food: Offer large, soft spears or half-moons; they should squish easily between fingers.
  • Grip tips: Lightly pat dry to reduce slipperiness or offer as a preloaded spoon.
Safety: Remove woody stem ends and ensure pieces are very soft.

6–8 months

  • Purée: Peel and blend ripe kiwi until smooth; mix with banana, pear, or yogurt to balance acidity.

9–11 months

  • Serve soft, peeled slices or small smashed chunks.
  • Mix into porridge, mashed avocado, millet pap, or cottage cheese for added texture.
  • Avoid overly small round slices that may slip to the back of the mouth.

12+ months

  • Offer small pincer-grip pieces or diced kiwi for snack plates and fruit salads.
  • Add kiwi to smoothies, yogurt bowls, or sandwiches with cream cheese.
  • Encourage toddlers to scoop or spear pieces to build utensil skills.

Choking hazards & safety

  • Firm or round-cut kiwi slices can be a major choking hazard, especially when cut into coin shapes.
  • NEVER offer firm raw kiwi or full round slices to babies.
  • ALWAYS ensure kiwi should squish easily between fingers and cut lengthwise into strips or smash for younger babies.
  • Kiwi is slippery, increasing the risk of sliding into the throat, so dry pieces slightly before serving and always supervise
