Labneh is a creamy, strained yogurt cheese popular in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines. Its mil,d tangy flavor and smooth texture make it a gentle and nutritious first food for babies. Packed with calcium, protein, and probiotics, labneh supports bone growth, gut health, and immunity while offering a rich source of energy and healthy fats for developing brains.

Nutritional Information
Labneh provides a concentrated source of nutrients, including calcium for strong bones, vitamin B12 for brain development, and beneficial probiotics that aid digestion. It’s lower in lactose than regular yogurt, making it easier to digest for some babies. Choose plain, full-fat, pasteurized labneh with no added salt or flavorings. Homemade or fresh varieties from Middle Eastern stores are ideal; avoid those with herbs, garlic, or olive oil until after 12 months.

How to serve labneh by age

Baby-Led Weaning

  • Finger food: Spread thinly on soft toast, sweet potato rounds, or baby rice cakes.
  • Texture: It should squish easily between fingers—avoid thick layers that may stick to the mouth.
Safety: Serve in small portions and monitor for any dairy sensitivity.

6–8 months

  • Puree: Stir smooth labneh into mashed fruits (banana, pear, or avocado) or cooked vegetables (carrot, pumpkin).

9–11 months

  • Mix labneh with soft cooked grains like couscous, lentils, or rice for added creaminess.
  • Use as a dip for soft veggie sticks (steamed carrot, cucumber, or zucchini).
  • Encourage self-feeding with pre-loaded spoons or spread on soft finger foods.

12+ months

  • Offer in wraps, sandwiches, or with roasted vegetables.
  • Mix with fruit purees for quick snacks or blend into smoothies.
  • Use as a creamy base for sauces or pasta to enhance flavour and nutrition.

Choking hazards & safety

  • Labneh itself has a low choking risk due to its smooth, spreadable consistency.
  • However, NEVER offer labneh with chunky mix-ins (like nuts, seeds, or herbs) to babies under 12 months.
  • ALWAYS ensure accompaniments—like toast or veggies—should squish easily between fingers.
  • Avoid overly thick servings that can stick to the roof of the mouth.
  • Always supervise while eating, and introduce plain versions first to watch for dairy reactions.
